India – From Developing To Developed

Dear Friends, We are coming more closer to our target of becoming a developed nation by 2020. This channel is meant to be an online platform to have wider and frequent talks between all those who share the vision of INDIA 2020.

Save Water Save Life

Water being one of the most essential necessity of life, becoming an increasing scare resource, needs careful planning and management. Availability of safe quality drinking water is being reduced due to pollution from sewage and industrial waste. So water should be meticulously harnessed and carefully conserved. It should be economically used and safely disposed off after usage.

The need of the hour is sustainable water management, specially in the context of meeting the demands of an increasing population. Simply put, it means managing our finite water resources for present needs while keeping in mind the future requirement of next generation. It also means looking at fresh water as an exhaustible, natural and essential resource and seeing watershed areas as sustainable units of water resource development and management.

Uttarakhand State, whose glacial peaks and beautiful valleys hold age-old ecological secretes, is a measure water bank for North India. Its 1917 glaciers spreading over 3550 Sq. km, comprise a perennial source of water. The state is largely made up of mountainous areas full of forest, which cradle many rivers and natural water sources. These natural sources are nourished by rain water, which is the biggest source of water on this planet.

Ironically, today the people of these mountainous areas are in the vice-like grip of water scarcity. Increasing population has resulted in an unsustainable demand for water, soil erosion in watershed areas, increasing silting of rivers and streams, and depletion of groundwater reserves.

Uttarakhand receives an average annual rainfall of 1240 mm, much of which flows into the rivers. If we conserved a bare 0.68% of this rainwater, it would fulfill the drinking water requirement of Uttarakhand. The conservation of 2.36% would suffice irrigation requirement. It means the conservation of a mere 3% of annual rainfall holds the key to the alleviation of the States woes!

Considering the importance of water as a life sustaining resource we should launch intensive awareness campaigns for optimum water utilization and management. We should give information on different techniques of water collection, conservation and harvesting.

To save water, the ground water table should be properly recharged by water harvesting schemes (making roof harvesting structures). The ancient Naulas, Dharas, Gadharas, Khals and Ponds should be protected from being polluted at their source because these are the main sources of drinking water schemes. The quality of drinking water should also be monitored. Further, linking water conservation programs with Income generating activities will also be beneficial. So water should be save and conserved.

Youth for Equality

Youth for Equality (YFE) is a group of alert aware citizens who share the youthfulness to believe in ourselves to "Get the system right and keep the system right". As a young nation - We share the aspirations of our members from all age groups - school and college students, working professionals, house wives and older and wiser retired gentlemen. YFE has branches across the nation and beyond the shores of the country as well. Its in collective effort and wisdom, we see the dream of an India of Equality.

YFE was galvanized into existence in Apr 2006 in opposing the politically motivated divisive "OBC reservation policy" of the UPA Govt. The month long sporadic protests that continued thereafter united citizens across the nation in a forceful voice of reason. The voice reverberated from the streets to inside the parliament and found support even in the highest judicial body of the Country. Thus began the journey ...

Tips to Avoid Aids (World AIDS Day)

Tips to Avoid Aids

Author: M.V. Sreenath Reddy

Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a condition that gradually destroys the body's immune defense system and makes the body vulnerable to opportunistic diseases. It is caused by infection with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). After HIV invades the body, it lives and multiplies in the white blood cells, which are the cells that protect the body from disease. As the virus multiplies, it damages or kills these and other cells, and the body becomes prey to a wide range of disease-causing microbes. When HIV has destroyed enough white blood cells, the body is no longer able to fight off many infections, and a person begins to get sick. If a person with HIV infection has not had many white cells die, that person feels fine and looks fine.

Wash eyes and skin immediately with running water should they be splashed with blood or body fluids.

Disinfect body with sodium hypochlorite solution. Wash with a germicidal soap and rinse thoroughly. Keep water pressure low to avoid splashing.

Use electric aspirator to aspirate body fluids. Cover draining port to avoid flashback.

Biological safety cabinets (Class I or II) and other primary containment devices (e.g., centrifuge safety cups) are advised whenever procedures are conducted that have a high potential for creating aerosols or infectious droplets. These include centrifuging, blending, sonicating, vigorous mixing, and harvesting infected tissues from animals or embryonated eggs. Fluorescent activated cell sorters generate droplets that could potentially result in infectious aerosols.

Avoid sex with individuals who are in a ‘high risk’ group such as - male and female prostitutes, homosexuals, bisexuals, people with multiple partners, individuals who have had sexual contact with an AIDS patient, hemophiliacs, patients on renal dialysis, intravenous drug abusers etc.

To manage HIV infection requires, as a starting point, identification of those who are infected in a non-discriminating and non-threatening way. The ANC-led government is therefore increasing access to counseling and voluntary testing at health facilities and non-medical sites. It is promoting the use of rapid tests that have proven to be accessible, and cost-effective.

Married men and women. Among married people in every country surveyed, the most common reported change in sexual behavior in response to AIDS is to restrict sex to the person's spouse Other changes that married respondents mention include using condoms, asking the spouse to be faithful, having fewer sex partners, stopping sex entirely, avoiding sex with prostitutes, and not using unspecialized needles for injections.

Condoms have an 85 percent (annual) success rate in protecting against pregnancy. That's a 15 percent failure rate. But a woman can get pregnant only about six days per month. HIV can infect a person 31 days per month. Latex rubber, from which latex gloves and condoms are made, has tiny, naturally occurring voids or capillaries measuring on the order of one micron in diameter. Pores or holes 5 microns in diameter have been detected in cross sections of latex gloves. (A micron is one-thou-sandth of a millimeter.) Latex condoms will generally block the human sperm, which is much larger than the HIV virus.

Since it includes heterosexual males and females with multiple sex partners, hemophiliacs, and habitual intravenous drug users , therefore , only safe sex is the first and foremost step to be taken in this regard.

YSR dead, body Photos

YSR dead, body recovered from crash site in Andhra

It’s official. Twenty four hours after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy disappeared while on his way from Hyderabad to Chittoor in AP, his body has been retrieved from the site atop a hill in the thickly forested area of Nallamala where his helicopter crash-landed.
The bodies of his YSR's special secretary P Subramaniam, Chief Security Officer ASC Weseley and that of a pilot have been recovered. The body of one pilot is yet to be found, sources said.

The BEL-430 chopper was piloted by Group Captain S K Bhatia and Captain M S Reddy.

YSR's wife Vijayalaxmi and family members were informed of the tragedy. While his son and Member of Parliament Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy camped in Kurnool to coordinate the search operations, YSR's daughter Sharmila and her children reached Hyderabad from Bangalore in the early hours of Thursday.

The chief minister's son-in-law evangelist Brother Anil Kumar is returning to Hyderabad by cutting short his visit to the US. Sources said that crack commandos who were dropped over the crash site found and retrieved the bodies. The bodies are being flown to Hyderabad were a post-mortem will be conducted.

Initial reports indicate that the chopper had a major crash. The reasons are yet to be ascertained.

Earlier, the Chief Minister's office was able to establish mobile connection links with Chief Security Officer Weseley. But he did not respond to repeated cell phone calls and SMS. BSNL had established signals to the area and official in Hyderabad were able to call and SMS the CSO. That gave a fair indication that there may not be any survivors.

There was utter shock and disbelief in the State Secretariat where senior ministers, officials and others had gathered. As the news trickled in, people around the secretariat were found dismayed. Close to the Secretariat, the Ganesh immersion ceremony which was taking place has been scaled down.

YSR, 60, had just completed 110 days in office in his second term when he met an untimely end.

Senior Congress leaders are in Hyderabad to assess the situation.

About an end of the world 2012

Never before has a date in history been so significant to so many cultures, so many religions, scientists, and governments. A global cataclysm brings an end to the world
To be more precise, December 21 2012 has been suggested as the end of the world, earth as we know it. Some say that on an ancient Mayan calendar 2012 points to the end of the world. Others say that for Nostradamus 2012 is also a possible doomsday.

There is in fact more than one end of the world 2012 prediction for a 2012 earth "use by date". It has got to the point where the thought of a December 21 2012 dooms day is freaking some people out. Should you be freaked? We don't think so. For starters, given past doomsday predictions and prophecies about the end of the world, earth should have ended by now! Since the earth is still here, it would be fair to say then that, to date, all prophecies and predictions about the end of the world (before 2012) have failed!

Me and My Friends in OOTY

i would like tell something about ooty

About OOTY
The Verdant hills, the lush green valleys and the pristine natural beauty of the hill resort of Ooty offers the urban tired souls a chance to resume their affair with Nature, to whom they truly belong.
The heavenly hill resort like a blushing bride peeks from behind lofty Nilgiri hills. The unassuming beauty of this heavenly hill resort beckons you to come and and embrace the tranquility and solace that Ooty has to offer.

The Hill resort of Ooty in Tamil Nadu, India, is located in the midst of four high hills; Doddabetta, Snowdon, Elk hill and Club Hill. These hills belong to the Nilgiri range or the 'blue mountains.' A British Collector by the name of John Sullivan discovered the hill station of Ooty and developed it as a summer resort, realizing its potential. The original name of Ooty was 'Udhagamandalam, but it was shortened to 'Ooty' after the arrival of British, which might have had something to do with the difficulty one feels at pronouncing such a difficult name! Apparently the British Collector was right about Ooty and now it is one of the most popular hill stations in India, particularly of South India.

HISTORY IN BRIEF

Tour to Ooty, India The earliest that is known of the history of Ooty, is that it was ruled by Vishnu Vardhana, the Hoysala King, from 1104 to 1141 AD. Later, after many years, it came under the rule of the British East India Company, after the company signed a treaty with the brave Tipu Sultan in 1799. This is when John Sullivan started the development of the hill station and promoted it as an ideal summer retreat. Lots of cottages, clubs and other buildings were built to house and provide recreational facilities to the British officials. Soon enough, the hill station was growing tea for its inhabitants, who considered high tea to be an integral part of their day. Now, these tea estates not only produce the favorite drink of millions of Indians but also add to the charm and the beauty of the hill resort of Ooty India.

CLIMATE AND THE BEST TIME TO VISIT

Ooty is a picturesque hill station that is pleasant all through the year, so there is no 'wrong time' to visit this place. Though many consider that the best time is from 'February to May' or else from 'September to November'. If you prefer summers, you can simply pack all your cotton clothing, along with a light jacket, just in case there is a shower or drizzle. The winters are somewhat cold, so it would be a good idea to carry your winter wear or woolen clothing with you on tours to Ooty India.
Tourist Attractions
One of the reasons people like to visit hill stations is that, they not only offer a respite from the dust and pollution of the city but also give people a chance to see the undefiled beauty of nature. The green hills, the cascading waterfalls and sparkling brooks, all make the hill stations a delight for the eyes of the urban dweller. Ooty is an ideal hill station since it offers all this and much more. There are many places you can tour, such as the Botanical Gardens, Lamb's rock and Dodabetta Peak, on tours to Ooty India.

Botanical Gardens

If you are on a sightseeing tour to Ooty, you might want to visit the Government Botanical gardens, which were laid out in 1847.The picturesque gardens that are maintained by the Horticulture department of the state, cover an area of about 22 hectares. The Gardens have well over 650 species of plants and trees, including a fossil of a tree, which is believed to be more than 20 million years old. The garden is very popular with nature lovers and those who long to walk among greenery and see rare ferns and shrubs up close.
If you are in Ooty in the month of May, then you can also be a part of the summer festival, which is held here annually. The festival holds flower shows and various cultural programs showcasing the talent of the locals and the renowned artists.

Transportation and Access
The hill station of Ooty, is a very popular hill station, so getting there is no problem. You can either travel by road, air or rail.

By Air

The nearest airport to Ooty is at a distance of about 88kms and is located in Coimbatore. There one can take Indian Airline flights to Coimbatore, Bangalore, Cochin and Chennai.

By Rail

The Ooty railway station is merely 2kms from the City Center and the other railway station is 46km away at Mettupalayam.

There is also a toy train that connects Ooty with Mettupalayam and Coonoor, another famous hill station. Though it is not really the fastest way to get there, but the guests can enjoy scenic beauty all along the way.

By Road

Traveling by road is a not a bad idea either, since Tamil Nadu has a very good road network. The state has many highways that connect distant places and make traveling much easier.

interest charged by money lenders. Today, it's money-lender free, thanks to the sincere efforts of Mandikal branch of Pragathi Gramina Bank.

Former finance minister P Chidambaram had dreamt of making villages across the country money-lender free. The Pragathi Gramina Bank, in tune with his wishes, has already taken up steps in this direction. Tavarekere is the second village to be declared free of money lenders.

The villagers, mostly labourers with one third belonging to scheduled castes, were getting financial assistance from private money lenders in Andhra Pradesh. At least three financial firms, which claimed to have been registered under RBI, would lend money and charge exorbitant interest. The recovery agents of Ammamma Bank, Future Financial Services
and SKS Financiers, who claim to have registered offices in Chittor and other places, would visit the villages on a weekly basis to recover loan instalments. On an average, they'd recover over a lakh of rupees every fortnight.

T Papanna, manager, Mandikal branch, who visited the village was horrified to note the exorbitant rate of interest charged by them. To free the villagers from their clutches, he advised them to borrow from Gramina Bank. A majority of villagers were on the black list of various banks. Papanna persuaded them to repay outstanding loans with concessions for one-time settlement. Later, he began financing villagers depending upon their needs. With better prospects for dairy activity there, the bank funded the purchase of 56 cross-breed cows, besides providing financial assistance for other activities including business, piggery, poultry and other activities.

Shobha, a member of a women's self-help group, said that she is happy to deal with the bank as the interest rate is affordable, and bankers don't harass them for recovery unlike private money lenders. Narayanamma, who had no source of income a couple of years ago, is now a proud owner of six cross-breed cows and three calves. The local Milk Producers Cooperative Society has joined hands with the bank authorities for recovering loans. Result: the branch's overall recovery position is a stunning 98%.

Papanna added that most belonging to scheduled castes have become self reliant by obtaining financial assistance from his bank.
